ABF Seizes More Than USD 2 Million in Counterfeit Banknotes at Queensland Border

The Australian Border Force (ABF) has intercepted more than USD 2 million in counterfeit Australian and Canadian banknotes entering Queensland, marking the largest single‑importer detection in the state. Officers uncovered the fake currency across 12 air‑cargo consignments linked to the same consignee.

The ABF reports a sharp rise in attempted counterfeit currency importations, with this operation highlighting the growing sophistication of cross‑border cash‑counterfeiting networks. By identifying and stopping the notes at the border, ABF officers prevented the counterfeit money from entering circulation and protected Australian businesses, consumers, and the wider community from potential financial harm.

The detection reinforces the critical role of border operations in safeguarding the integrity of Australia’s financial system and disrupting illicit financial activity before it reaches domestic markets.
